According to the statement from Peru’s Southern Copper trade union, they failed to reach an agreement to end the indefinite strike with their company after a long meeting on Monday night.

The trade union leaders representing 2,200 workers said that the company did not agree with the union's main demand for increasing share of profits. Both of them would arrange another negotiation on Wednesday.

The strike began on Monday. Before this strike, Cerro Verde, Peru’s largest copper mine, and Chile’s Escondida, the world's largest copper mine, also held a strike.

Southern Copper said on Monday that their operations were barely affected by the strike. Cuajone and Toquepala copper mines were operating at 98% capacity, and Ilo refinery was operating at 100% capacity. However, a former trade union representative said that 80% of the company's operating capacity was affected by the strike.
