Elkem, a Norwegian supplier of silicon products and solar energy industries, will delay the resumption of production at its ferrosilicon furnace 3 in Iceland by one month until the end of January 2024, due to low water levels in the reservoirs of key hydropower plants caused by insufficient precipitation in December, which would need to limit power to large energy consumers.

The furnace 3 was temporarily suspended in the fourth quarter of this year in order to accelerate maintenance. Now the scheduled start-up is postponed, but it will not affect the company's customers or employees.
