Norsk Hydro ASA, a Norwegian aluminum and renewable energy company, said on Tuesday (September 10th) that it would shut some production facilities, including aluminum foil production in Grevenbroich, Germany, as well as to lay off some workers, which might impact 700 employees.

The plan was due to the high costs in these aluminum foil facilities caused by intensive personnel and manual production process, according to Einar Glomnes, executive vice president of rolled products at Norsk Hydro. The adjustment was expected to cost around 160 billion euros, and it will improve the profitability of its rolled products sector.

Norsk Hydro hoped to focus its rolled products business on potential markets, such as the automotive industry and the beverage can market.
