Norilsk Nickel (Nornickel)’s CEO, Vladimir Potanin, announced its plan to ramp up the production capacity and output of nickel and palladium in the next five years. Based upon the source, Nornickel would be able to advance the output of nickel and copper by 15% by 2025 from 2017 if it carried out two new projects and vamped its production facility.

In terms of nickel output, it was predicted that Nornickel could increase the production from 210,000 tons in 2017 to 240,000 tons by 2025. However, Nornickel would need to raise capital expenditure with amount of US$6.5-7.5 billion for the investment, and additional US$2.5 billion for environmental program.

Vladimir Poranin said Nornikel would like to satisfy booming demand in the future EV (electric vehicle) market with the support of these new project in order to compete with other producers on the market.

The report also published Nornickel’s partnership with Russian Platinum and Germany’s BASF to strengthen its competitiveness. Potanin also mentioned his interests in bringing digital technology into Nornickel so that it could position itself in EV market in diversified ways.
