Kumba Iron Ore, the fourth largest iron-ore producer in the world and the largest in Africa, announced that it has built a new suburb in Northern Cape Province, South Africa, to prepare for the expansion of the Sishen mine. The Sishen mine was a large iron mine located in Northern Cape and represented one of the largest iron ore reserves in South Africa.

The expansion plan has been underway for more than a decade. After expansion, the life expectancy of the Sishen mine could be extended from 14 years to 20 years and it could bring an additional billions of dollars in revenue to Kumba.

Iron ore was one of the main commodities in Kumba's parent company, Anglo American, who was a globally diversified mining company. Also, Anglo has been emphasized its confidence on the iron ore operations in South Africa.
