Japan's Marubeni Corporation said last Friday (August 20) that it has begun selling carbon-neutral aluminum ingots called "Neutr-Al" in Japan in response to customers' requirements to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as aluminum consumers in the transportation, packaging, and construction sectors hope to buy low-carbon materials so as to reduce their carbon footprint.

The carbon-neutral aluminum ingots traded by Marubeni offset greenhouse gas emissions from bauxite mining, alumina production, aluminum smelting, and transportation to Japan through carbon credits.

A Marubeni official said that there is no fixed rate, and the cost of carbon-neutral aluminum will depend on customers’ needs.
