PT Adaro Energy, a leading coal miner in Indonesia, planned to build a US$728 million aluminum smelter in the new green industrial park in Bulungan, North Kalimantan. Adaro Energy has signed a letter of intent through its subsidiary PT Adaro Aluminium Indonesia last week.

Ario Rachmat, Adaro's Vice President Director, said that Adaro is optimistic for global demand for aluminum products, especially cable, battery, and chassis.

The company is striving to realize its business transformation through green initiatives in the long term. It would cooperate with undisclosed domestic and international partners for this smelter project.

The construction of this new aluminum smelter will take two years to complete. The products of this smelter will be aluminum ingots and sheets.
