According to the data from Indian Joint Plant Committee (JPC), Indian crude steel output in April to September period rose by 6% year-on-year to 52.3 million tons roughly.

The hot metal production rose by 8.1% on year to 35.4 million tons this six months’ period and pig iron production increased by 8.8% to 3 million tons roughly. Finished steel output rose by 4% to around 63.8 million tons.

The JPC also said Indian domestic demand was expected to rise by 10-11% every year for the next three years since the construction activities increased.

Although the recent steel production rose, the country remained the net importer of finish steel. The total imports dropped by 7.4% to 4 million tons in April to September period compared to last year. However, steel exports dropped by 35.2% to 3.1 million tons roughly.
