According to the report from Baker Hughes, in the week ending on January 17, 2025, the US rotary rig count dropped by four week on week to 580 units. Among them, the number of drilling rigs for natural gas fell by two to 98 units, and that for oil also slid by two to 478 units. The total number had a year-on-year decline of 40 units or 6%.

During the same period, Canada’s rig count hiked by 13 to 229 units from the previous week, including 156 oil rigs (up by 12 week on week) and 73 gas rigs (up by one week on week). Canada’s rig number grew by six compared to the same period a year ago.
