Southeast Asia is one of the fast growing in steel production in the world, Subhendu Bose the Managing Director of Duferco Asia said in the Asia Steel Markets conference in Ho Chi Minh City last week.

The increasing production was mostly long product. The production of rebar was up to 18-20 million tons per year. In 2020 -2021, the additional new production will raise rebar capacity to 23 million tons per year.

Hot-rolled coil was the fast growing product in 2018. The annual capacity was more than 9 million tons because Vietnam increased its production. In the 2020- 2021 period, new production line will push up the capacity of hot-rolled coil to 13 million tons in this area.

Along with the increase in steel production, the steel exporting amount was rising rapidly in ASEAN from 2015's 9.8 million tons to 2018's 15.6 million tons.
