It was reported that the world's largest steel producer ArcelorMittal scheduled to spend $162 million in its steel mill located in Burns Harbor.

In the coming years, ArcelorMittal would invest its mills along with the Lake Michigan shoreline, such as hot mill, new cranes, an in-line temper mill, and a new basic oxygen furnace vessel. This project would strengthen ArcelorMittal’s steelmaking reliability and hike its product range.

Burns Harbor town provided abatement of tax to support ArcelorMittal which was its largest taxpayer on new investment. It was expected to create more than 4,000 job opportunities to the township and neighborhood.
