Leading Italian steel producer Acciaieria Arvedi has commissioned Primetals Technologies to upgrade its two vacuum degassers at the Cremona plant. The project, set for completion in the latter half of 2025.

Arvedi plans to diversify its product range and will be among the first globally to use the electric arc furnace-ladle furnace-vacuum degasser route for electrical steels. The upgrade will see the VD plants enhanced to VOD systems, allowing vacuum degassing and oxygen blowing for silicon steel production. Primetals will provide essential components, including water-cooled ladle covers and oxygen lance systems.

Arvedi's Cremona plant, operational since 1992, is Europe's first mini-mill for flat-rolled steel, with a capacity of four million tons annually. The Arvedi group, Italy's largest steel producer, focuses on carbon and stainless steel production for European industries.
