Indonesia is preparing to launch a domestic metal exchange in 2026, offering futures contracts for nickel and other metals, announced the Indonesian Nickel Miners Association (APNI). As the world's largest nickel reserve holder, the government, which banned ore exports in 2020, seeks greater control over nickel prices following its four-year low in 2024.

APNI Secretary General Meidy Katrin Lengkey confirmed government approval for the exchange, which will initially focus on nickel pig iron before expanding to other metals. She stated their ambition is to control the world with nickel.

The London Metal Exchange (LME) welcomed the plan for regional pricing, and Abaxx Exchange advised careful consideration of timing and regulatory context.
