Peabody Energy signaled it may terminate its deal to acquire certain Australian steelmaking coal assets from Anglo American if issues at the Moranbah North mine are not resolved. The Queensland-based mine, part of the Bowen Basin, has been idle since an underground fire in March, halting production.

Peabody issued a Material Adverse Change (MAC) notice and said a significant portion of the deal's value is tied to Moranbah North, but there is currently no clear timeline for restarting longwall production. Anglo American disagreed that the production stoppage constitutes a MAC and said it remains committed to fulfilling the deal's conditions. Analysts at Jefferies warned the dispute could delay the transaction significantly or jeopardize it altogether.
