ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih in Ukraine is working to boost production and reach break-even after years of disruption. CEO Mauro Longobardo highlighted that the plant increased pig iron production by 44% year-on-year in 2024, reaching 2.67 million tons, helped by open ports that allowed exports of concentrate, pig iron, and finished steel. 

Since late March 2025, two blast furnaces have been running and are expected to remain in operation through the year.

Still, the plant faces serious challenges, including high energy costs, tariff issues, and a shortage of skilled workers due to mobilization. The company said it cannot raise prices to cover costs without losing customers. Longobardo stressed the need to stay competitive despite war-related inefficiencies in the energy sector.

Despite the pressure, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih remains committed to Ukraine and hopes to resume its $500 million annual investment plans once the conflict ends, supporting local industry and attracting new capital.
