LME Hong Kong warehouses set to open, boosting Asia’s metal logistics

The London Metal Exchange (LME) will launch its first four registered warehouses in Hong Kong on July 15, 2025, positioning the city as a key gateway to China, the world’s largest metal consumer.

With China’s market restrictions, Hong Kong serves as a strategic entry point for the LME.

LME CEO Matthew Chamberlain said Hong Kong is ready to become a global metal hub for the Asia-Pacific region.

No government subsidies have been offered, but the move is seen as a vital step toward tapping China’s market. Success will hinge on market acceptance and cost management. The warehouses are expected to enhance Asia’s metal logistics by streamlining supply chains.
