Liberty Steel's Hartlepool factory is set to manufacture 105 km of offshore steel pipelines. The company secured this contract in December 2024 from Net Zero Teesside Power (NZT), a joint venture between bp and Equinor.

This forms part of a larger £4 billion allocation for carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects. The pipeline production is scheduled to continue through the third quarter of 2025.

The production of steel pipelines at Liberty will generate its own carbon footprint. According to the company's most recent sustainability report, Liberty's European steel operations produced emissions totaling 7,170 ktCO2e.
