Indonesian steelmaker PT Gunung Raja Paksi Tbk (GRP) has announced plans to increase its low-carbon hot-rolled coil (HRC) production by 92.3%, reaching 2.5 million tons annually by 2027, up from the current 1.3 million tons. More than 50% of the expanded production will be exported to the European Union to comply with the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) regulations. 

On February 25, 2025, GRP signed a partnership agreement with Primetals Technologies, aiming to become the first non-Chinese steel producer to meet Europe’s demand for zero-carbon HRC. The move further solidifies GRP’s position as Southeast Asia’s leading low-carbon steel manufacturer.
