According to a press release by the European Steel Association (EUROFER), it supported the demonstration held on February 5 in Brussels, organized by industriAll Europe, where steel and manufacturing workers will urge the EU to protect industry jobs and invest in a fair transition.

EUROFER warned that without immediate EU action, more steel plants will close, leading to job losses in the steel industry and economic decline.

Steel is the core of many other industries, including automotive, from construction and defense to renewable energy systems and aerospace, and its disappearance from Europe would threaten entire value chains and prosperity, said Axel Eggert, Director General of EUROFER.

Key measures from the industriAll-EUROFER European Steel Action Plan included stronger EU trade defense and tariffs to counter global steel overcapacity, an effective Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) to prevent circumvention and preserve EU exports, affordable clean energy by ensuring access to low-carbon electricity, and retaining steel scrap in Europe.
