India’s Shyam Metalics and Energy starts stainless steel rebar production

7 Oct 2024 14:30 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
Shyam Metalics and Energy Ltd. (SMEL), an Indian steel producer, has started its stainless steel rebar production, with products used targeted for coastal regions.

The initiative is part of SMEL’s commitment to support the Indian government’s vision to strengthen coastal infrastructure and promote the ‘Make in India’ program by using high-quality domestic materials.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has recently promoted the use of stainless steel rebar due to its characteristics of corrosion resistance and durability.

In order to extend the service life of important construction projects such as roads and bridges, Minister Nitin Gadkari called for the mandatory use of stainless steel rebars within 30 kilometers of the coast.

SMEL’s products include TMT bars, ferroalloys, sponge iron, billets, structural steel, pipes, and pellets, all used in construction projects from residential to commercial and infrastructure developments.
