EUROFER urges approval of European Steel Pact

17 Jul 2024 15:35 reported by Stanley Wang

A A A
The German delegation to the European People's Party (EPP) has proposed a European Pact for Steel, a timely initiative as the new EU legislative period begins. The European Steel Association (EUROFER) supports the creation of an EU high-level group, led by a renowned political figure, to ensure the successful transition of the EU steel sector with rapid interventions. EUROFER urges Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to endorse the proposal.

The position paper, titled "European Steel Pact," was launched on July 10, 2024, by MEPs Dennis Radtke and Christian Ehler of the CDU. The European steel industry advocates for immediate action on overcapacity, unfair trade practices, access to competitive clean energy, essential raw materials, and the creation of lead markets for European-made green products. EUROFER calls on von der Leyen to integrate the European Steel Pact into the priorities for the new EU legislative cycle.
