Cargill Inc., a leading commodities giant, has ended its steel trading business in China due to slow activity caused by the country's property downturn. The decision aims to optimize Cargill's onshore physical steel trading model. The move does not impact Cargill's steel operations outside of China or its iron ore desk.

Cargill spokeswoman Bridget Christenson stated that the company seeks to bring its best capabilities to serve customers both in China and globally. China's prolonged property crisis has significantly reduced steel demand, ending two decades of rapid growth and tightening liquidity for traders.

Despite the cessation, China remains a crucial market for Cargill's metals business. The company is committed to leveraging its global expertise in trading and risk management to continue serving Chinese customers, according to Christenson.
