Turkey’s scrap imports increase in Jan-Mar y-o-y

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), In March, Turkey’s scrap imports dropped by 21.5% year on year but increased by 13% month on month to around 1.84 million tons. The import value totaled about US$823 million, a year-on-year decrease of 17.6% but a month-on-month increase of 13.7%.

From January to March, the country’s scrap imports totaled about 5.31 million tons, increasing by 7.8% from the corresponding period a year ago. Also, the import value went up by 15.1% year on year to about US$2 billion. Among them, the US was the main import source, with an increase of 5.2% year on year to 1 million tons. Other import sources included the Netherlands (hiking by 45% year on year to about 804,000 tons) and the UK (growing by 18.1% year on year to about 577,000 tons).
