The Confederation of British Metalforming (CBM) stated that new EU sanctions on Russia may significantly impact British downstream manufacturers purchasing steel globally.

CBM represents British manufacturers of screws, forgings, stampings, cold rolled, and sheet metal products. New EU sanctions will come into effect on September 30, requiring evidence that steel used to produce goods in third countries outside the EU, including the UK, does not originate in Russia.

Material testing certificates are needed to confirm the facility and location where the material was melted and poured and secondary steel processing. CBM indicated that many companies would not be aware of this export change. It could cause product delays at customs and sometimes halt production in critical automotive and aerospace sectors. These sweeping sanctions are likely to impact UK exporters and importers significantly.
