US’ Micron Technology starts construction of chip facility in India

On September 23, US-based Micron Technology started the construction of a semiconductor assembly and test facility in Sanand, Gujarat, with a total investment of around Rs 22,500 crore (US$2.75 billion).

Micron will invest up to US$825 million in building the facility in India, with the government’s support.

The plant will be constructed in phases. It was expected to be put into operation by 2024, and the first batch of made-in-India chips will be produced by December of next year.

Around 5,000 direct jobs and 15,000 community job opportunities will be generated over the next five years.
