Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of the Government of Goa, said that iron ore mining in Goa was expected to resume in 2023-24. The state has been ready for the auction of iron ore blocks for the resumption of mining activities.

The mining industry was once one of the state's major revenue sources. However, the Supreme Court issued a mining ban and quashed 88 mining leases in 2018.
which used to be one of the major revenue earners for the state, had come to a standstill in 2018 after the Supreme Court quashed 88 mining leases.

Pramod Sawant said the first auction of four iron ore blocks has been successfully completed in December 2022 and the mining activities will be started in the fiscal year 2023-24. Besides, the second auction of five other mining blocks has also been completed this April.
