Argentina to launch new gas diversion project to transfer local gas supply

18 May 2023 11:58 reported by Vicky Wang

A A A
Argentina's government announced that it will invite bids for the natural gas diversion project. The investment of the project is US$560 million. The pipeline required for the diversion project is about 150 kilometers long, and the steel plate needs are estimated to be 63,000 tons.

The project was designed to transport Vaca Muerta production to the north and center of the country. Vaca Muerta is a massive shale formation in western Argentina; it plays an important role in the South American country's gas supplies and can decrease dependence on expensive imports.

The projects would be completed next year and replace supplies from Bolivia, where production has decreased. Also, the pipeline project will allow exports to northern Chile, central Brazil, and Bolivia.
