Taiwan’s ferrous scrap imports decrease in 2022, Japan’s supply rises

According to statistics from Taiwan Customs, Taiwan imported around 267,300 tons of ferrous scrap in December last year, up by 14% compared to the previous month and by 13.2% from the year-ago level.

In 2022, Taiwan’s ferrous scrap imports amounted to 2.9 million tons, a year-on-year drop of 5.5%. Among them, the US remained the largest scrap supplier with roughly 1.2 million tons of scrap, a year-on-year decrease of 4.6%. Japan ranked second, supplying 599,400 tons of scrap to Taiwan in 2022, a year-on-year hike of 2.7%.
