German steel manufacturer Stahl-Holding-Saar (SHS) announced that it has decided to jointly invest EUR 3.5 billion with its subsidiaries Dillinger and Saarstahl to transform the steel industry in Saarland, Germany, and realize the production of green steel.

It was understood that the company would build a new production line of an electric arc furnace (EAF) at the Völklingen site, as well as an EAF and a direct reduction iron (DRI) plant for the production of sponge iron at the Dillinger plant.

By 2027, the annual production of low-carbon steel at the Saarland plant would reach 3.5 million tons, and carbon emissions would be reduced by 4.9 million tons.
