According to statistics from the Russian Special Steel and Alloys Consumers and Suppliers Association (USSA), Russia imported around 18,000 tons of stainless steel in August, dropping by nearly 30% compared to the previous month.

Among them, the imports of hot-rolled stainless steel plate had a month-on-month decrease of 30%, and those of cold-rolled stainless steel sheets reduced by 22% month on month.

In terms of production, the output in August had a year-on-year increase of 19.3% and a month-on-month hike of 9.8% to roughly 18,000 tons. The output in the first eight months of this year reached about 90,000 tons, up by 4.4% from the same period a year earlier.

The USSA said that the stable demand for stainless steel in the Russian market was due to the fact that the main consumers were companies in nuclear energy and power engineering, shipbuilding, defense industry, and oil and gas complex, all of which had sufficient funds and long-term plans.
