According to the latest report of the World Steel Association (worldsteel), crude steel production in the North American market was down in May. The US produced 4.79 million tons during the month, down by 36.6%, while Canada produced 830,000 tons, 19.6% below from the same month last year.

As for Mexico, it produced 1.45 million tons of crude steel in May, down by 13.2% from the same month in 2019. In the first five months of this year, Mexico's crude steel production reached 7.26 million tons, down by 12.4% from 8.29 million tons in the same period last year.

The other two major steel producer countries in Latin America also suffered production fall in May: Brazil produced 22.6% less to 2.19 million tons while Argentina produced 52.2% less to 194,000 tons, compared to the same month of last year.
