According to a report released by the World Bureau of Metal Statistics (WBMS), the global nickel market had a short supply of 83,100 tons in the first eight months of this year. In 2020, the market had an oversupply of 84,200 tons.

During the period from January to August, the refined nickel output totaled around 1.799 million tons, and the demand was around 1.882 million tons. The nickel mine production was around 1.745 million tons, increasing by 211,000 tons year on year. The apparent global demand was up by 384,000 tons year on year.

The unreported inventory changes were not included in the consumption statistics. The demand was calculated by apparent data, and trade statistics might be affected by nationwide blockade measures.
