The US steel industry reacted positively to the news of the UK steel import tariff quota agreement. UK Steel, the trade association for the UK steel industry, showed that the deal was welcomed by the UK Steel industry.

The agreement allows up to 500,000 tons of steel products melted and poured in the UK to be exported to the US market from June without being affected by the 232 tariffs currently in place in most other countries.

Britain will remove retaliatory tariffs on US products. The US Steel Manufacturers Association, the United Steelworkers, and the Alliance for American Manufacturing all issued statements supporting the deal.

The agreement will help address global steel overcapacity, transshipment, illegal dumping, and subsidies.
