U.S. Steel relaunched an idled pipe mill at its Lone Star Tubular Operations in Texas as the steel market is getting better. The firm began to rehire workers because the oil industry was improving few months ago.

The No.1 electric-weld pipe mill had been idled in 2016 because of bad steel conditions, but now more and more steel pipe clients are asking for American made tubular products. Therefore, U.S. Steel mill restarted its Lone Star pipe mill. The Lone Star No.1 mill will provide the high-quality electric-welded pipe to the clients, which had a yearly capacity of 400,000 tons.

The mill has also planned to restart the Lone Star No.2 welded pipe mill, which was a part of U.S. Steel Tubular Products. A main application of the products were applied in the growing energy industry. The Lone Star mill can produce pipe with a size ranging from 7 inches to 16 inches outside diameter.
