On July 17, 2025, the US Department of Commerce (USDOC) announced its preliminary affirmative determination to impose a 93.5%-102.72% anti-dumping (AD) duty on active anode materials from China, saying that these products are being sold at unfairly low prices in the US market. This decision is to protect domestic producers and address concerns about critical mineral reliance.

Combined with existing countervailing duties (CVD), the new duty brings the total effective rate to approximately 160%, according to the American Active Anode Material Producers (AAAMP), the petitioner of this case.

The new AD duty impacted an estimated US$347 million in the imported subject products from China in 2023 and is expected to alter sourcing for automakers and battery manufacturers as the US seeks to secure critical mineral supply chains.
