Pennsylvania-based Consol Energy planned to open a metallurgical coal mine in the Wyoming County community of Itmann, southern West Virginia, in the second half of 2019 or the first half of 2020, and started producing coal in 2021.

The new Itmann Mine was expected to produce 600,000 tons of low-vol coking coal for a period of 25 years.

Through the mining of the Itmann Mine, Consol Energy could develop its coal business in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. When coal production entered into a high level, Consol Energy's metallurgical coal production would be increased to 2.5 million tons.

The company expected the coal sales in 2019 could reach between 26.8 million and 27.8 million tons.
