Steel and aluminum manufacturers in the US enthusiastically praise President Trump's latest tariffs, even though the domestic aluminum industry still relies on imports.

Recently, the US administration decided to impose a 25% tariff on imported steel and aluminum from Canada and Mexico. In response, the US Aluminum Association immediately requested an exemption for aluminum imports, as two-thirds of primary aluminum is from Canada and 90% of scrap aluminum imported into the US comes from Canada or Mexico. The association highlighted the industry's reliance on external supplies.

The prices of steel in the US are expected to rise sharply due to the policy gaining momentum. Meanwhile, major steel exporting countries like China, the EU, and Canada are likely to retaliate with trade barriers, leading to a broader trade war that could negatively impact global steel supply and pricing structures.
