Certain construction steel product exports from the UK to Northern Ireland will be subject to a 25% tariff after the EU’s quotas of global imports were used up earlier than expected.

The relevant industry strongly opposed the decision. Gareth Stace, Director General at UK Steel, a trade association for the UK steel industry, said that such a tariff is beyond ridiculous as it prevents the UK producers from selling goods to customers in their own country. What's worse, EU steel producers can continue exporting these products without being imposed tariffs in the UK, while the UK can no longer do so in the opposite direction.

UK Steel called on the government to stop the tariffs immediately, but the government didn’t give reply to the request.
