Turkey posts decrease in Jan-Apr iron ore imports

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey imported a total of approximately 3 million tons of iron ore in the first four months of this year, a 14% decrease compared to the same period a year earlier. The total value of these imports was around US$330 million, a year-on-year fall of 33%.

Brazil was the largest supplier, providing about 2.2 million tons, a 15% increase from the previous year. It was followed by Sweden’s 331,000 tons and Uzbekistan’s 239,000 tons.

In April alone, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled roughly 989,000 tons, a month-on-month hike of 4% and a year-on-year drop of 8%. The import value rose by 0.5% month on month but fell by 28% year on year to around US$101 million.
