SSAB, the largest steel sheet manufacturer in Scandinavia, stated it had found solutions that could cut fixed costs at the Raahe plant by EUR10 million per year without reducing the workforce, including the development of working practices, job rotations, and the addition of multiple skills.

The manager of the Raahe plant, Jarkko Matkala, said that they were able to add solutions together to increase the organization’s resilience, mobility, and versatility, which is exactly what they were after.

Therefore, the steelmaker had ended talks on changes at its Raahe plant in Finland that started in September. SSAB has a total of approximately 4,700 employees in Finland, and the change negotiations affected approximately 2,400 of them.
