The US decided to extend the exemption period for tariffs of steel and aluminum for some countries; however, South Africa was not in the list.

The South African Department of Trade and Industry said that the US’ move was in violation of the relevant rules of the WTO and would have a negative impact on 7,500 jobs in South Africa.

The South African Department of Trade and Industry has urged the domestic exporters to persuade their US trade partners to submit the application of tariffs exemption to the US Department of Commerce.
