Many vessels carrying scrap to be delivered in Taiwan’s southern port of Kaohsiung were delayed due to severe weather caused by Typhoon Chanchu. The port has been very busy with the unloading of scrap steel over the past three months. Now some vessels have been delayed by between 5 and 7 days and this is affecting the schedules of many shipping companies. The delays in delivery have alleviated some of the pressure at the loading docks, but it is expected to pick up when the ships enter the port again soon. Vessels from Japan as well as Hong Kong are on the way. Around 270, 000 tons of scrap was delivered at the port during last month. (May 19)
