German steelmaker, Salzgitter Group, has announced that its subsidiary Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH has received the Technical Delivery Condition (TL) 2350-0000 certification from the German Military Technology Center 91, officially approving its high-strength SECURE 500® steel with a thickness of 6 to 16 mm for use in military vehicles and protection systems.
To obtain the certification, the group conducted rigorous tests on the steel's performance under weldability, fire, and explosion conditions. SECURE 500® steel has excellent surface quality and dimensional accuracy. After quenching and tempering, it has a fine martensitic structure and excellent ballistic resistance.
The group stated that in the future, it will expand the certification of more steel grades and launch a complete SECURE military steel product range after the German armed forces complete the final evaluation. Also, the group stressed that in the face of rising geopolitical risks, Europe must strengthen its self-defense capabilities, and Salzgitter will continue to provide key materials support for the defense sector.
