Rio Tinto, the world's second-largest mining company, has stated that it cannot achieve its 2025 decarbonization target of reducing carbon emissions by 15%.

According to the Paris Agreement, Rio Tinto said that it expected to achieve a 15% reduction in direct and indirect emissions by 2025 and 50% by 2030, on the 2018 baseline.

However, as Rio Tinto failed to consider the long-term cash flow impact of imposing a carbon tax, it has struggled to achieve its carbon emissions targets. The company's current situation highlights the dilemma and difficulty of heavy industries in reducing carbon emissions.

In addition, Rio Tinto also expected to continue to increase its emissions between 2023 and 2025 as its production grows.
