Since the International Maritime Organization (IMO) was about to implement the IMO 2020 marine fuel sulfur limit from January 1st next year, the ships must install the s emission reduction systems.

Due to the new restriction, the demand for desulfurization equipment such as SOx scrubbers was expected to increase. Therefore, POSCO actively developed new products to grab the market of high-alloy stainless steel for this kind of equipment.

POSCO has formally set up a team from last year, which covered sales, quality, production and research and development (R&D), and it has successfully mass-produced high-alloy stainless steel S31254 for desulfurization equipment earlier this year.

POSCO has started to provide the equipment for some companies of desulfurization equipment, such as Hyundai Power Systems, Kangrim Heavy Industries and Insulation and STI Co., Ltd.
