It was reported that Norway formally initiated a request of consultation to the WTO for tariffs on steel and aluminum by the US on June 19th.

Norway pointed out that the 25% tariff imposed by the US on imported steel products and a 10% tariff on imported aluminum products did not correspond to its obligations under the WTO trade security measures.

Foreign minister of Norway stated that the global trade order might be broke and the credibility of the WTO would be undermined because the US did not follow the WTO's rules.

This was the sixth application received by the WTO for consultations from the US, and there were other five countries to appeal to the WTO on the US tariffs policy including the EU, Canada, Mexico, Russia and India.
