Japan’s steelmaker Nippon Steel aims to double its US crude steel production within three to five years, according to CEO Eiji Hashimoto. The company, which recently acquired U.S. Steel, planned to achieve this by improving production efficiency and introducing advanced technology at its new subsidiary.

Nippon Steel will invest US$11 billion in U.S. Steel by 2028 to upgrade aging production facilities and expand production. This plan is part of a larger global strategy to increase Nippon Steel's crude steel output from 58 million to 100 million tons, seeking to become the world's leading steel manufacturer.

In addition, the company also plans significant production expansion in India and Thailand to counter low-priced Chinese steel exports.
