Italy’s Marcegaglia chose Primetals Technologies to modernize the spout-type electric arc furnace (EAF) plant and its dedusting system at its Sheffield meltshop in the UK.

Through the EAF upgrade project, efficiency and the environment at Marcegaglia’s Sheffield plant will be further improved.

To shorten the downtime, larger furnace components will be pre-assembled, with completion expected in mid-2026.

The new EAF will allow Marcegaglia to increase its goal of increasing the plant's production capacity of stainless steel products to more than 500,000 tons per year, which will be further processed within Marcegaglia Group.
