According to the latest Japan Iron & Steel Federation data, Japanese steel exports amounted to around 3.2 million tons this June, decreased by 2.1% year on year and fell by 2.3% month on month. It was because Japanese mills reduced export orders to focus more on domestic demand.

Japanese plate exports totaled about 240,000 tons in June, soared by 61.2% year on year and down slightly by 0.7% month on month, however its hot-rolled coil exports decreased by 7.1% year on year in June and down slightly by 0.9% month on month to about 900,000 tons.

Japan exported about 500,000 tons of steel to Thailand in June, a significant 10.4% increase on year and down by 1.6% from May; it was a 1.9% year-on-year decrease but a 10.1% month-on-month increase to China. Japanese June steel exports to the US amounted to around 130,000 tons, dropped by 31% compared to same period of 2017, down by 0.2% compared with the previous month.
