On May 5, 2025, India's Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) issued the Aluminium and Aluminium Alloy Products (Quality Control) Order, 2025, introducing newer quality control regulations for aluminum products produced in India. The latest regulation will come into force on October 1 this year.

Replacing the previous 2024 order, the directive mandates that 17 categories of aluminum products, including tubes for irrigation purposes, EC-grade rods, plates, sheets, strips, wires, foils, and aerospace alloys, must comply with Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and obtain BIS certification with the Standard Mark under a valid license.

The implementation date for general enterprises is October 1, 2025, and small and micro enterprises get extended compliance timelines to follow the regulations, starting from January 1 and April 1, 2026, respectively. Export-only products and imported goods for research and development (R&D) purposes, up to 200 kg annually, are exempt, provided they are not for commercial sale and are disposed of as scrap.
